ANOINTING OF THE SICK

They anointed with oil many that were sick and healed them.

(Mark 6:13)

RECEIVING THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK

  • It is NOT only for those at the point of death.


  • For those in danger of death from sickness, accident, or old age.


  • May be received more than once.


  • Before having surgery.



  • For those advanced in age experiencing increased fragility.

EFFECTS OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK

  • Strengthening in the Holy Spirit against anxiety, depression, discouragement, and temptation while bringing comfort, peace, and fortitude in serious illness or frailty of old age.


  • Unites the sick person to the passion of Christ.


  • Physical healing if it is the Will of God and good for the soul.


  • Preparation for entrance into heaven by remission of venial sins and the cleansing of our souls from the effects of sin.
